EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY
VSA arts of Florida
Teaching Artists
VSA arts of Florida’s (VSAFL) mission is to create a society where people with disabilities can learn though, participate in and enjoy the arts. Headquarter at the University of South Florida, VSAFL is a member of the international network of VSA arts, an affiliate of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. VSAFL provides arts, education and cultural opportunities for and by people with disabilities.
VSAFL has received a National Endowment for the Arts grant which will provide teaching artist residencies for children with disabilities, and youth at risk through the Department of Juvenile Justice in every county of the state. The residency program consists of teaching artists in movement, drama, music or the visual arts providing hands-on experiences for eight one hour sessions. Artists are paid $50.00 per hour and are required to complete curriculum mapping and an evaluation of their sessions. The program provides art skills, increased social interaction, a means of self expression, increased knowledge of the art form and career information. The outcomes include increased academic achievement, greater self-confidence, higher self-esteem and improved social relations and behaviors.
VSAFL is seeking teaching artists for our registry. Please go to www.vsafl.org and complete the teaching artist application. If you have any additional concerns, please contact Marilyn Farber @ mfarber.coedu.usf.edu or call 813-558-1144.
