Having just celebrated 40 years, Central Florida's fine arts museum is a grand example for exhibitions, art education and other arts related forums. They are located in picturesque Lakeland, near Lake Morton, one of Polk's 535 lakes.

Winners Announced
for Congressional Art Competition
Polk Museum of Art and the office of Congressman Adam Putnam are pleased to announce the winners of this year’s Creative Youth: 12th Congressional District Competition. The competition is a showcase for the best artwork created by high school students in U.S. Rep. Putnam’s congressional district, and one of the winning pieces will be shipped to Washington, DC, for display in the U.S. Capitol Building.
“This is one of the most exciting student exhibitions we present every year,” said Daniel E. Stetson, Executive Director of Polk Museum of Art. “We are proud to work with Representative Putnam’s office on this celebration of the talents of our high school students.”
“It’s always striking how many extremely creative and talented young people we have in our area,” said Putnam. “Their work serves as an inspiration to us all, and I’m just delighted we have the opportunity to provide this showcase.”
The award winning students are:
Best of Show: Katrina Bettard, 12th Grade – Lakeland High School
First Place: Michael Pazda, 12th Grade – Harrison School for the Arts
Second Place: Emily Coleman, 12th Grade – Lakeland High School
Third Place: Alexa Udermann, 10th Grade – Harrison School for the Arts
Polk Museum of Art Purchase Award: Matthew Brandt, 11th Grade – Cambridge Study Center
Polk County School Board Purchase Award: Caroline Finch, 12th Grade – Lakeland High School
Merit Awards: Jordan Atkinson, 12th Grade – Harrison School for the Arts; Corrie Cross, 10th Grade – Frostproof High School; Caroline Finch, 12th Grade – Lakeland High School; Jessica Gray, 11th Grade – Bloomingdale High School; Sean Lawlor, 12th Grade – Harrison School for the Arts; Kyndil Rogers, 10th Grade – Harrison School for the Arts; and Hannah Yurchak, 11th Grade – Cambridge Study Center.
Creative Youth: 12th Congressional Competition is sponsored by the Congressional Arts Caucus and the office of Representative Adam Putnam. The 12th Congressional District Competition is a cooperative planning effort between U.S. Rep. Putnam’s office, 12th District public schools, and the Polk Museum of Art. Local corporate underwriting for the exhibition is provided by Michael D. Martin, Atty., Burnetti Children’s Foundation and the Law Offices of Burnetti, P.A., and Southwest Airlines.
The exhibition will be on display in the George Jenkins Student Gallery at Polk Museum of Art through April 13, 2008.
